Diggity Dog Overview

In this adorable first memory board game, kids help the puppies find their bones. Start by pressing on the electronic barking dog, and he will bark the number of spaces you move (1,2 or 3). When your puppy lands on a space beside a bone, he can pick it up using his magnetic nose. If the color of the bone matches your puppy, you get to move it to your doghouse. The first to find three matching bones wins.

My daughter picked this game in a specialty toy store and when we brought it home, we weren’t disappointed. It’s great fun and it’s one that my pre-schooler can play properly as well. My daughter loves it so much, she gifted one to her kindergarten classroom last year for Christmas. Apparently it was quite popular.

We have played this game dozens of times (no exaggeration) and we’re still on the battery that came with the game. The kids love pushing the doghouse (my daughter calls that dog “the teacher”) to know if they’re moving one, two or three barks. If you don’t want to replace the battery, you could always play with a die or spinner from another game.

There is a slight amount of set-up required, which may frustrate younger children. What helped us was getting the kids involved in setting up. Even if they peek to see what color bone is where, they can’t cheat, since the doghouse instructs them where to go.

There’s no strategy, just chance, and so this is an excellent beginners game for learning how to lose and how to win.
